A quality pair (as would be expected from Avery) of Roberval principal English Postal Scales made from heavy gauge brass on a solid mahogany base with four bun feet. The inland postal rates for letters & parcels etc. are listed on the letter pan and were the postage rates around 1897, the scales are stamped "AVERY" on the upper cross beam. 

The scales come four original brass imperial bell weights; the weights are stamped 1lb, 8oz, 4oz and 2 oz's. 

These large antique postal scales are undamaged and in excellent (although uncleaned) condition and working order and measure about 11" (28cm) wide, 6¼" (16cm) deep and 5½" (14cm) tall.
