A pair of early English hand held steel beamscales in their original box with 4 recessed brass guinea weights. The steel equal arm beam is 4.5" (11.5cm) in length and the brass pans are 1.5" (4cm) in diameter, they balance perfectly and are in superb condition. The matching weights are in units of pennyweights and grains There are 2 one guinea weights (one for guineas coined prior to 1772 one after), 1 half guinea weight (prior to 1772), 1 quarter guinea weight (prior to 1772) all with an anchor counterstamp and crossed sceptres and all are in superb condition. The oval floral designed japanned metal tin has the original brass hinge and red lining felt, there are 6 small recessed compartments to house the weights (2 weights are missing). The tin is about 5.5" (13.5cm), 2.5" (6cm) deep and just 0.75" (2cm) high and it’s in excellent condition.
