This compact late 19th century prescription balance incorporates a cast iron base and stand and a brass beam (graduated in drachms & grains), weighing pan and movable weight, the balance has a capacity of up to 8 drachms (1 ounce). The balance is about 10¼" (26cm) long, 6¼" (16cm) tall and weighs about 1lb 15ozs (872g) and apart from some surface rust in places is in excellent condition.
